CAIRO -- Egypt has set January 19, 2011 as a date for hosting the second Arab economic development summit, the Arab LeagueArab League said.
Preparations are already in full swing for the summit, Arab LeagueArab League Secretary General's Office Chief Hisham Yussif said in news remarks.
The planned summit is to be preceded by preparatory meetings at the levels of ministers and senior officials, he said.
The first Arab economic development summit was held in Kuwait in January 2009 upon initiative from His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
During the Kuwait summit, HH the Amir launched an initiative creating a USD-two-billion fund for supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. Kuwait has contributed USD 500 million to the fund.
Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said Friday evening the Second Arab Economic Social and Development Summit, to be held in Cairo, in January, 2011, would build on the outcome of the first such meeting, hosted by Kuwait in January 2009.
“The next summit will review the implementation of the resolutions of Kuwait summit,” he affirmed.
