KBC to decide on ministries demand Saturday

Baghdad, A Kurdish lawmaker stated Thursday the Kurdistan Region's President Massoud Barzani's will meet next Saturday with the Kurdistan Blocs Coalition (KBC)'s negotiating team to take the final decision about demanding the sovereign and service ministries in the new Iraqi cabinet.
The KBC comprises all the Kurdish winning factions to the Iraqi parliament, except Gorran Movement. There are 49 deputies in the coalition.

Fuad Massum, a leader in the KBC told AKnews that the KBC's choice of ministries will be according to the votes the bloc has secured in the elections.

The Iraqi lawmakers elected Nov. 11 Jalal Talabani as the Iraqi president and Osama al-Nujaifi from the as the parliament speakers. The two deputies for the speaker were also elected

Talabani, assigned Thursday the outgoing Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki to from the new cabinet in 30 days. The cabinet includes an overall 38 ministries.

After the election of the Iraqi president and parliament, the lawmakers resumed parliament sessions so as reach an agreement regarding the points each bloc is entitled depending on the seats it has secured in March parliamentary elections.

According to the deal one point equals 2.24 seats. The allocation of the president or the PM posts will reduce 10 points from the total points of the assuming blocs, five points are reduced for the deputy PM and vice presidents, three points for the senior ministries, two points for the ministries related to services, and one for Ministry of Statem Baha 'Aaraji a lawmaker from the National Coalition (NC) told AKnews.

However, he did not refer to the points assigned for the parliament speaker and his two deputies.

The NC is the largest parliamentary bloc, dominated with Shias.

Oil, foreign and finance ministries are among the key ministries demanded by more than one bloc. According to the media reports the defense and interior ministries are preferred to be run by neutral figures.

According to the new deal the KBC and the NC, each, have already used up 10 points by taking over the presidential and the PM offices, respectively. Another KBC representative Arif Tayfur is also the second deputy parliament speaker.
