Council of Ministers decided to postpone the census to date to be agreed upon later

Cabinet decided in its session today to postpone a general census of population-to-date to be determined by agreement between the political blocs.

A media adviser to Prime Minister Ali al-Moussawi told a news briefing on Tuesday, said the decision came because of the problems encountered in the census, stressing that it was originally a political and not technical.

Moussawi said that there are fears among Kurds, Arabs and Turkmen, from the census can not the Ministry of Planning dissipate only through the meeting of the political blocs.

The number of members of the Nineveh province, had renewed last Friday, demanding postponement of the date the census scheduled to take place in December next to the lack of the appropriate atmosphere for the vote in a timely manner according to the saying, while he expressed the Arabs and Turkmen in Kirkuk, the same desire.

It was due to hold general census of the population in the fifth of December next after the adjournment of the scheduled date for the fifteenth of October last.
