Baghdad, A member of the Kurdistan Blocs coalition (KBC) said on Sunday that the Kurds would surrender the Foreign ministry in exchange for either the Oil or Finance Ministries, while an al-Iraqiya List member said that either the Defense, Interior, Finance or Oil Ministry would satisfy his list along with the service Ministries.
KBC member Faryad Raondzi said that although the Kurds would not give up the Foreign Ministry easily, they were aware that all is negotiable and remained flexible.
Al-Iraqiya member Jamal al-Batikh said that his list insists on taking a sovereign Ministry such as the Defense, Interior, Oil or Finance Ministry.
"AL- Iraqiya List has a constitutional right to one of the key ministries because it won the largest number of seats in the election,” he said.
At the same time, Batikh recognized that further negotiations were necessary and a certain amount of flexibility required.
“The ministerial posts will be subject to discussion and compromise in order to achieve the national partnership principle."
During today’s parliamentary meeting, lawmakers began to address the issue of ministerial allocation which is expected to take a week to finalize.
Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, in charge of forming the Iraqi government, ordered the formation of a committee to select one of the proposed candidates for each ministry that will be submitted by the political blocs.
According to the Iraqi constitution, the newly nominated PM has one month to allocate the different ministries and shape the new cabinet.
