Turkish FM attends strategic dialogue meeting with GCC in Kuwait

ANKARA, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu participates in the 3rd Ministerial meeting of strategic dialogue between the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Turkey, slated in Kuwait on Sunday.

Davutoglu will be heading the Turkish side while the GCC part will be chaired by Kuwait's Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the GCC.

A foreign ministry statement said the ministers would discuss means of activating economic and commercial cooperation between the six-member bloc and Turkey within the economic cooperation framework agreement, which was signed in Manama, Bahrain, in 2005.

The meeting will be a good opportunity to exchange views over regional and international issues of mutual interest, said the statement.

The 2nd strategic dialogue was held in Istanbul in July 2009, while the first in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in September 2008. The Jeddah meeting witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish a mechanism for the venue of the strategic dialogue.

Davutoglu is set to meet with His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah during his visit to the Gulf state.

The Turkish top diplomat is scheduled to travel to Doha on Tuesday for talks with senior Qatari officials.
