Shared features of GCC countries encourage oil cooperation -- minister

Kuwait, Relatively shared features enjoyed by GCC countries encourage oil cooperation, Oil Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah said Sunday.

Sheikh Ahmad, who is currently heading the 29th GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Oil Ministerial Committee meeting, said in a speech at the commencement of the meeting that such features would also help in holding mega oil ventures and would also contribute in achieving the aspired economic integration among GCC countries.

Al-Abdullah, who also doubles as Minister of Information, also pointed to importance of oil media in educating the society through various means and programs, stressing necessity to enlist oil culture in schools as a subject.

The meeting will discuss the mechanism of promoting the joint action among the GCC states in the oil field, as well as establishing joint oil projects according to their economic feasibility, the minister said.

It will also discuss measures to further expand the participation of the private sector in the GCC states in the oil projects, as well as scaling up the sector's contribution to the development of oil projects, he added.

The committee will review the topics submitted by the GCC general secretariat on the new and renewable sources of energy and the relations between GCC states and other world countries, and it will mull the recommendations submitted by the 10th meeting of the GCC undersecretaries of the ministries of oil on various topics.

In addition, the committee will make a decision on forming a sub-committee of petroleum media specialists, who will devise a strategy for petroleum media for GCC states.
