President Barzani meets with US senior officials

President of the Kurdistan Region, Massud Barzani met with a delegation of senior US officials including Tony Blinken, National Security Advisor to the Vice President, James Jeffrey, US ambassador to Iraq and Lieutenant General Lloyd James Austin, General Commander of US forces in Iraq today in Sahaladin resort, Erbil province.

During the meeting Tony Blinken said that president Obama and his vice president warmly welcomed the initiative by president Barzani, stating that both the initiative and an expected session of the Iraqi parliament ordered by Iraqi federal court will speed up the process of the formation of Iraq’s new government.


For his part, president Barzani appreciated the US position and that of Arab League, Egypt and Turkey as well, for supporting his initiative to hold talks among all Iraqi blocs.

President Barzani then informed the attendants of the latest outcomes of the meetings recently held among the wining blocs, describing them as “good progress”.

He also stated that Kurdish wining blocs constituting Kurdistan blocs’ coalition will hold their final meeting on November 7th to determine with which bloc to make alliance to form the government.

After appreciating president Barzani’s initiative to speed up the process of forming the new cabinet, Tony Blinken said that a strong government on the basis of national partnership which encompass all Iraqi groups and factions will be helpful to promote bilateral relations in all aspects.
