10/3/2010Kuwait calls for following up on resolutions of Kuwait summit
CAIRO, (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Mohammad Al-Afasi on Sunday affirmed necessity of following up on implementation of resolutions of the 2009 Kuwait-hosted Arab summit for economic and social affairs, particularly decisions concerning the latter issues.
Dr. Al-Afasi, head of the opening session of the the 56th meeting of Arab social affairs and labor ministers' executive office, said in remarks to KUNA on sidelines of the meeting that the conferees debated the issue of following up on resolutions of the Kuwait top-level meeting, noting in particular the initiative that had been launched by HH the Amir of setting up a USD two billion fund for supporting small and medium enterprises in the Arab world.
The fund, that had been established with USD 500 million from Kuwait alone, and later drew USD 1.2 billion in total -- including the Kuwaiti share -- was ready to be "launched to alleviate hardships of the (limited-income) Arab peoples, help the poor and employ the young," Al-Afasi said.
The session agenda deals with some plans that had been carried out for tapering off impact of the international economic crisis in the Arab world, the Kuwaiti official said.
Al-Afasi added that the conferees, at today's session, discussed possibility of crafting a common stratey for trimming poverty, following up on the Arab declaration for social action for realising development objectives, following up on implementation of the resolutions of the Arab summit in Sirt, Libya, as to the financial support for the youth and handicapped centers and houses in Palestine. Necessary resolutions for ensuring dispatch of the aid to these centers in the occupied territories were taken, he added.
They also discussed preparations for the 30th session of the Arab ministers, due in December.
