Erbil, Sept.18 (AKnews) – The Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani left Baghdad on Saturday on his way to the United States at the head of an official delegation to participate in the 65th round of the General Assembly of the United Nations meetings that will be held there.

The statement that was issued by the presidential office on Saturday stated that President Talabani will deliver a speech to the 65th General Assembly of the United Nations which starts on Thursday with the participation of 132 of the world’s presidents.

The statement also stated that while in New York the Iraqi President will take part in the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) conference. (last year, Sept. 2009 ~ Bill Clinton Basks in Role of World Saviour )

The CGI was founded in 2005 by former U.S. President Bill Clinton in a bid to take globalization a step further and form what he described as “a more integrated global community of shared benefits, responsibilities, and values”.

CGI brings together world leaders from a variety of backgrounds to brainstorm practical solutions to global issues through the development of measurable commitments to action.

According to the statement, President Talabani "will meet a number of the participating countries presidents in those meetings, and will discuss with them the bilateral relations between Iraq and those countries and ways of developing them as well as discussing issues of mutual concern.”
