11 September, 2010Talabani calls on Iraqis to use Eid as path to gov't formation
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on Friday called to make the most of the Islamic celebration of Eid al-Fitr, in reaching common ground on the country's government formation.
In a cable of congratulations to Iraqis and Muslims on the occasion, he called on local political parties to practice further efforts into reaching compliance, according to the constitution, on forming a government and resuming the rebuilding of politics, security and public services in the country.
"The glorious occasion affirms the need to enhance national accord and strengthen brotherly ties in the face of our adversaries, who have targeted our country's security, economy, rebuilding and political process," he said.
