Arab League Council Begins its 134th Session
Cairo, September 14 (QNA) - The Arab League Council began its 134th session at the permanent delegates''level at the league''s general secretariat premises here on Tuesday afternoon under Iraq''s Representative Dr. Qais Al-Azzawi with the Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa also attending.
The two-day meetings are to prepare for the arab league foreign ministerial council due to kick off here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari. HE Ambassador Saleh Abdullah Al-Buainein , Qatar''s Permanent Delegate To The Arab League and its Ambassador in Cairo represents Qatar to the meetings.
The participants are to discuss preparations for the extraordinary Arab summit due to be held in Libya on October 9.
Arab League Secretary General''s Advisor Mohamad al Zaydi told reporters here that the foreign ministers will discuss preparations for the extraordinary Arab summit, due to be held in Libya on October 9, and the Arab Economic and Social Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh next January 19.
The Palestinian issue and direct negotiations with Israel will be discussed by foreign ministers, he said, in addition to the Israeli illegal repressive practices in occupied Jerusalem, water security and Israel''s stealing of water from occupied Arab territories. Al-Zaydi said the top diplomats will also discuss the situation in the Syrian Golan Heights, solidarity with Lebanon, Iraq and ways of countering international terrorism.
He noted that foreign ministers of the Arab summit troika - Qatar, Libya and Iraq - would meet to follow up implementation of the resolutions of the Arab summits. Another ministerial troika - Syria, Somalia and Iraq - and Arab League secretary general Amr Moussa is to meet to discuss implementation of the Sirt Arab summit. Al-Zaydi said foreign ministers will also discuss the referendum in South Sudan and hostilities in Somalia.(QNA) MD
