
9/17/2010Kuwait PM meets US VP,Biden and Nat''l Security Advisor
WASHINGTON, His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah held talks with US Vice-President Joe Biden at the White House Friday, and has also met with National Security Advisor James Jones.
Kuwait Ambassador to the US Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, speaking to KUNA and Kuwait TV following the meetings, said Sheikh Nasser, paying a one-day visit to Washington, discussed "with the American side our prisoners in Guantanamo and the importance that the American side hand over the remaining Kuwaiti prisoners in that detention facility to Kuwait.
"Vice President biden promised to follow up this issue," said Sheikh Salem.
He, meanwhile, said the meetings were "cordial and the discussions were very frank."
They have discussed many issues related to Kuwait and the region, including security in the Gulf "where the Kuwaiti side expressed its honest views to the American side.
"They (Americans) were open to us in their view to the Gulf security specially after the withdrawal of US combat forces from Iraq," added the Ambassador.
The US side briefed the Kuwaiti delegation about its views vis-a-vis the government formation in Iraq and the direct negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians, he added.
The Americans are "optimistic" over making a progress in the US-sponsored negotiations, said Sheikh Salem.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador said the talks were "very successful" with points of views completely identical.
