HH premier leads Kuwait''s delegation in UN meetings
KUWAIT, Sept 19 (KUNA) -- Representing His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah is leading Kuwait's delegation participating in UN General Assembly meetings due on September 15-30.
HH the premier will also preside over a roundtable meeting on health and education, which will be held by the UN General Assembly at the level of heads of state and governments.
He is expected to deliver his country's speech at the UN assembly meetings on September 24, in which he will voice Kuwait's positions on an array of international political and economic issues.
On September 20, he will address a high-level UN summit to review UN Millennium Development Goals. Upon arrival in New York, HH the premier said Kuwait is eager to effectively take part in UN meetings in order to express its stances on different international issues put up for discussion, and to demonstrate Kuwait's 2010-2014 development plan. He pointed to Kuwait's keenness on supporting UN efforts to achieve world peoples' goals for establishing the concepts of international cooperation and respect of international legitimacy, and for buttressing the principles of the UN Charter.
In this context, he maintained, Kuwait is continuously providing help to the needy in different world regions, saying that the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has offered donations to over 100 countries over five decades.
Kuwait is also acting to boost its annual contributions to a number of UN agencies and programs up to five times as many as the current figures out of its belief in backing humanitarian activities and deepening its cooperation with the international organization, he said.
This is the third time for HH the premier to address UN General Assembly meetings since he took over in February 2006. He first addressed the meetings in 2008. He then addressed the 64th UN General Assembly session in 2009.
UN General Assembly Ban Ki-moon has recently appreciated Kuwait for its bountiful assistance to the victims of Pakistani floods.
Out of its belief in the significant role of the UN in maintaining international peace and security and supporting people-to-people cooperation, Kuwait opened a UN service facility.
