Kuwait asserts importance of stability in Iraq
MANAMA, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Interior Minister Lt.-Gen. Sheikh Jaber Khaled Al-Sabah (ret.) asserted importance of stability of security in Iraq, while commending Bahrain for deterring sabotage acts.
Speaking to KUNA after arrival Tuesday to participate in a meeting of Interior Ministers of countries neighboring Iraq, due tomorrow, Sheikh Jaber praised Bahrain's security measures for deterring "the terrorist acts." Bahrain had recently announced the thwarting of attempts by outlawed people to carry out terrorist and sabotage attacks in the Kingdom.
On the meeting, Sheikh Jaber said the State of Kuwait was keen on the security stability in Iraq.
He said security stability in Iraq would help stability in the region, as well as helping Iraq march towards development and economic prosperity.
"Any threat against Iraq will impact negatively on security of countries and peoples in the region,' said the Kuwaiti Interior Minister.
He called for collaboration of efforts between Iraq and its neighbors to fight terrorism, drug trafficking, cross-border smuggling, organized crime and cyber crimes.
Sheikh Jaber hoped the interior ministers' meeting would discuss how to support security of Iraq.
Tomorrow's meeting will group interior ministers of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Turkey, representatives of the United Nations, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Conference and the Arab Council of Interior Ministers.
