BAGHDAD, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani briefed on Friday US Ambassador to Iraq James Jeffrey and US Commander of the Armed Forces in Iraq General Lloyd Austin on efforts being exerted by his country's political parties to end disputes and obstacles facing the formation of a national unity government.
In a presidential statement, the Iraqi leader stressed the importance of unity and real partnership as the basis for confronting terrorism and securing stability and prosperity in the country.
As far as bilateral relations are concerned, the Iraqi leader affirmed keenness to expand the strong relations between the two countries and to bolster bilateral cooperation in the framework of strategic partnership.
During his meeting, President Talabani also highlighted the previous various successes of security forces on the ground, including its effect on the political process in the country.
For his part, the United States renewed calls to speed up the process of forming a new Iraqi government, calling on Talabani to end political disputes among parties involved.
The comment was made during the trilateral meeting.
The statement said that Washington was keen on speeding up the process of forming the new government.
The US Ambassador also noted that the future of Iraq will be determined by Iraqis themselves, renewing the US support to the political process.
