Bahrain declares unwavering support for Iraqi Gov''t

MANAMA, Bahrain declared anew on Sunday its unwavering and full support for the Iraqi Government in its efforts aimed at restoring peace and security to the country and its regional and international role.

The Kingdom of Bahrain respects unity, territorial sanctity, independence, Arab and Islamic identity of Iraq and asserts its backing for the Iraqi Government efforts aimed at enforcing security and stability of Iraq as well as enabling it practice its significant and positive role regionally and internationally, said the Minister of Interior Sheikh Rashed Bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa.

Sheikh Rashed, who made the remarks during a meeting with delegations taking part in the seventh preparatory meeting of the interior ministers of states neighboring Iraq, scheduled here on Wednesday, expressed hope that the meeting would be crowned with outcomes that might serve the consolidation of the security and stability so that Iraq might restore its effective role in the region.

Meetings at this level have contributed to improving the security conditions in Iraq, through the continuous cooperation among the neighboring countries, Sheikh Rashed added.

The meeting on Wednesday is due to group the interior ministers of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Turkey, representatives of the United Nations, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Conference and the Arab Council of Interior Ministers.

The preparatory commission started a meeting, early today, under chairmanship of the head of the Bahraini Public Security, Major General Tareq Mubarak Bin Dineh, who affirmed in an opening statement that the gathering was intended to follow up on resolutions of previous meetings of the ministers of these countries, consolidating security cooperation, activating mechanisms of information exchange to face the security challenges in Iraq and helping this nation restore tranquility.

The Bahrain-hosted meeting of the interior ministers of Iraq's neighboring states is the seventh to be held at this level since 2004, when the first meeting was hosted by Iran. The other meetings were held in Istanbul, Jeddah, Kuwait, Oman and Sharm El-Sheikh.

These meetings are aimed at helping Iraq re-enforce law and order in the face of violent groups and saboteurs.

Kuwait delegation is headed by Interior Assistant Undersecretary for Border Security Major-General Mohammad Yusuf Al-Sabah.
