9/21/2010GCC, ASEAN FMs discuss ways to improve economic cooperation
UNITED NATIONS, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- Foreign Ministers of GCC countries, chaired by Kuwait Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister sheikh Dr. Mohmmad Sabah Al-Sabah, on Tuesday discussed with their ASEAN counterparts ways to improve economic cooperation between the two regional groups.
In a statement to KUNA following the meeting, Kim Hourn, the Second of State of the Foreign Ministry in the Kingdom of Cambodia, who chaired the meeting on the ASEAN side, said "We are looking forward to our close cooperation and partnership bweteen the two regions ... We have a lot to gain from our cooperation in trade, investment, tourism and in a wide range of issues.
"The idea is to speed up an action plan," he said on the annual ministerial meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) 65th session, to follow up to the two-year action plan of the second GCC-ASEAN ministerial meeting that took place in late May early June of this year in Singapore.
He added that the GCC Secretary General Abdulrahman Al-Attiyah is scheduled to visit ASEAN Secretariat next January.
Sheikh Dr. Mohammad had also chaired earlier today a GCC troika meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi to discuss regional issues.
The GCC troika was represented by foreign ministers of Kuwait and the UAE, and Al-Attiyah.
