Abdul Mahdi calls to convene a parliamentary session ...

Note: This was before the fact that Maliki had been chosen to be the candidate for Prime Minister, even so, it is a positive article saying that the parliament sessions must continue. We will probably see the formation of the government within days ... but remember this is Iraq and time doesn't seem to be a priority. October 1st is only 3 days away. Can Iraq pull it off? The entire world hopes so ...

Abdul Mahdi calls to convene a parliamentary session

Baghdad, The Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi called on Monday the members of the parliament to hold a session, to discuss keeping the open meeting with the presidency.

Abdul-Mahdi told AKnews, "Things can not be left in the country without a parliament that hold meetings, and discusses laws and pending issues… It will consider making the meeting open and the need to hold the parliamentary sessions with the Presidency Council. ”

"The meeting was supposed to be convened by the Iraqi National Alliance (INA) this morning but it did not take place, for unknown reasons. When the National Coalition (NC) meets, with both the INA and State of Law, it will determine who will be the only candidate for the president of the government."

"We must wait till the INA meets and provides its vision at the NC meeting, then we will see if the Coalition will come out with positive results,” he said, noting that the NC still depends on the consensus mechanism, otherwise, there will be many options and it may have to resort to a new mechanism.”

"The National Coalition will not form a government in which al-Iraqiya wouldn’t participate or without the State of Law," Abdul Mahdi added, denying "reports over the rapprochement of INA towards Iraqiya, and the approval of the Sadrist movement on Maliki to head the government.” He described these news as "leaks and rumours,” stressing that the NC wants to form a government of national partnership.

Abdul Mahdi welcomed the initiative of Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani, of calling the four large blocs to meet and talk, considering it as "an appropriate solution to end the crisis".

The State of Law and Iraqi National Alliance had formed a committee called "Wise Men Committee" made up of 14 members, which task is to set the mechanisms to choose a candidate for the NC, but it did not succeed due to the disagreement among its components, as well as its objection on Maliki the candidate of State of Law.
