UNSC "strongly" urges Iraqis to form new "inclusive" government "as quickly as possible"
UNITED NATIONS, Aug 4 (KUNA) - The Security Council on Wednesday strongly urged the Iraqis to form a new "inclusive" government "as soon as possible" and condemned the recent terrorist attacks in the country.
The council president Ambassador Vitaly Churkin of Russia told reporters in a statement following a council meeting on the work of the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) that the council "strongly urged Iraq's elected members of the Council of Representatives to act in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution and in support of the national interest and form, as quickly as possible, a government that is inclusive and represents the will of the Iraqi people and their hope for a strong, independent, unified and democratic Iraq."
The council, he added, also condemned the recent terrorist attacks and reiterated that "no terrorist act can reverse the path towards peace and prosperity, which is supported by the people and the Government of Iraq and the international community."
