Ultimatum to Dawlat al-Qanoon ends tomorrow – Aaraji

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The ultimatum given by the Iraqi National Alliance (INA) to Dawlat al-Qanoon Alliance to choose another nominee for the premiership position, rather than current Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, will end tomorrow, Lawmaker Bahaa al-Aaraji of the INA said on Monday.

“The Dawlat al-Qanoon should propose another nominee so that negotiations between the two alliances to form the new government can be resumed,” al-Aaraji told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that in case the Dawlat al-Qanoon did not replace al-Maliki with another nominee during the ultimatum’s timeline, the INA could join a coalition with the Al-Iraqiya and Kurdistan alliances.

The Iraqi National Accord (INA) known inside Iraq as Wifaq is an Iraqi political party founded by Iyad Allawi and Salah Omar Al-Ali in 1991. Al-Ali subsequently left the party after he realised the extent of Allawi's links to foreign intelligence agencies, mainly the C.I.A. and MI6.
It was founded at the time of the Persian Gulf War as an opposition group to Saddam Hussein. At that time, the two most active anti-Saddam groups were the SCIRI and al-Dawa; both were Islamic Shi'ite parties, originating from Iraq, but operating from Iran from which they received support. Both parties were disagreeable to[citation needed] the western powers, and Saudi Arabia, who had long poor relations with the Islamic Republic. The INA was thus set up to be an alternative, largely funded by money from Saudi Arabia; with extra support coming from the UK and the United States.

INA membership consisted largely of military and security personnel who had defected from the Iraqi army under Saddam Hussein's rule. Because of the perceived connections between INA members and security forces protecting Saddam Hussein, the INA drew American interest as an alternative ally to the Iraqi National Congress[citation needed]. more @http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraqi_National_Accord
