Talabani meets U.S. diplomat in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi President Jalal Talabani discussed on Monday with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, the latest developments in Iraq and efforts to form the new government, according to a presidential statement.

“President Talabani received at his residence in Baghdad, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, with whom he discussed the latest developments in Iraq,” said the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The president underlined the importance of speeding up the formation of the new government to start implementing projects and to strengthen security and stability,” the statement added.

The president asserted on Iraq’s importance and its strategic role in the region.
