Sistani's representative: Iraqi leaders should speed up govt formation ...

A representative of Iraq’s top Shia religious authority, Ali al-Sistani, in Karbala, said on Friday that the security performance of the Iraqi forces is "weak" because they fail to keep the stability of the country, describing them as "incompetent.”

During the Friday prayers at the Housseini Hall Ahmad al-Safi urged the parliament to speed up the formation of the future Iraqi government to end the state of "lawlessness" that the country is experiencing.

"The security system in Iraq is inefficient and unreliable in protecting the citizens and it is penetrated, especially by armed groups and members of the repressive regime, and this was noticed last week during the military operations done across the country," said Safi.

"The military commanders must be present in the field, and they must not rely on the analysis that they get from here and there as these maybe incorrect and inaccurate.”

Safi warned against "the increasing phenomenon of assassination using silent weapons, and this might take the country back to violence because the assassinations are targeting important personalities and innocent people at the same time.”

With regard to the formation of the next Iraqi government, Safi said the "delay in forming the government is unacceptable and incorrect, because it led to the political and security vacuum, thus the political blocs must speed up the government formation by sitting around the table and negotiating with each other in order to form the next government".

President Barack Obama announced on Aug. 5 that he had sent a letter to the religious authority Ayatollah Ali Sistani, asking him to intervene and resolve the government crisis in the country.
