TEHRAN - A senior Iranian oil ministry said on Sunday that Iran had obtained permission to export natural gas to the political ally of Syria and the Mediterranean region through the Iraqi territory.

Was quoted by ISNA news agency reported semi-official Iranian Javad OGE Deputy Oil Minister and chairman of the National Iranian Gas said: "At a meeting recently held with Iraqi officials announced the minister of oil and electricity security adviser, that their government issued a permit transfer (gas across its territory").

Ogi said that Iran will export gas through a pipeline gas-sixth parts of which are still under construction.

The total capacity of the pipeline 110 million cubic meters per day of which 50 million are allocated for local consumption and the rest for export.

Ogi said that Iraq needs seven to ten million cubic meters of gas per day, including the needs for the operation of power plants.

Although Iran is a great source of crude oil and has the second largest reserves of natural gas in the world, but it can not achieve target levels of gas exports because of sanctions the United Nations and the United States, which prevent them from access to Western technology to develop its capacity to export fuel.
