2010-08-14Maliki heads an expanded meeting for handling the security situation in Basra

Chaired by Prime Minister General Commander of the Armed Forces Nuri al-Maliki at his office today, the official expanded meeting for the circulation of the security situation in Basra.
A statement from Maliki's office said the meeting was attended by Defence Minister Abdel Qader Mohammed Jassim, Interior Minister Jawad al-Bolani, Minister of State for National Security Sherwan Waili, a number of members of the House of representatives of Basra, the governor, and commander of operations, the Director of Achartpvi province, in addition to the chiefs security and intelligence.
During the meeting reaffirmed the need to take all necessary measures to prevent terrorist plots against the security of Basra province to the preservation of this important and significant impact on Iraq, whether in terms of security, economic or other.
The commanders on the ground an explanation of the security situation and the latest investigations into the recent bombings.
Maliki confirmed the need to strengthen coordination between various security agencies and to give information of paramount importance.
He stressed the need to be given field security chiefs more powers to address the imbalances which they are tracking as soon as possible.
The actions have been taken to strengthen border ports, sea and land equipment, components and expertise to control what goes into and out of these ports.
