Iraqi President Talabani, PM Maliki, discuss formation of new government
BAGHDAD / Aswat Al-Iraq - Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani discussed on Monday with Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki the results of current talks among leading political blocs that regarding the formation of the new government.
“A bilateral meeting between both sides had witnessed the discussion of the political situation in Iraq and the results of the current talks among the political blocs that won the elections to form the forthcoming government,” a statement posted on the Iraqi presidential Web-site said.
President Talabani, in a joint news conference with Prime Minister Maliki said, “We have been honored to meet our dear brother (Maliki) and we have renewed commitment, alliance and historic cooperation between us; our viewpoints have been drawn closer to each other,” pointing out that the issue of forming the new government was discussed in the meeting.
“Non-marginalization of any party is necessary in the issue of forming a government of genuine national partnership, committed to the constitution and taking the high national interest into consideration,” he stressed.
For his part, Maliki said that, “discussions have been serious. We have studied all developments, which I believe have reached the end on the course of the formation of a government of genuine national partnership that will be able to carry out its missions in the construction of the State. In addition, it will be able to render services for all citizens and the completion of the process of building state institutions.” Maliki continued that “the forthcoming few days shall witness the activation of agreements among all.”
Maliki also expressed his agreement with President Talabani’s confirmation about non-marginalization of anybody and striving to achieve a government of genuine national partnership.
“Such goals cannot be achieved without agreement and commitment by all parties to march forward towards the formation of a government that will be committed towards the constitution, giving priority to the supreme national interest,” Maliki said.
