ECO-LEAGUE-STATISTICS-MEETING - Arab League statistics sub-cmte urges cooperation CAIRO, The Arab League Sub-committee for Economic Statistics ended its tenth meeting at the League's headquarters on Thursday, issuing two recommendations.
The sub-committee urged Arab statistics bodies to pay added significance towards the development of record numbers related to national estimates.
It also stressed the importance of attending workshops organised by the Arab League or other regional and international organisations, noting to the significance of the UN West Asia statistics development office in monitoring the translation of national estimates.
Statistics bodies in the Arab World were also called on to boost cooperation with eachother, in improving the quality of carrying out official statistics.

Concluded today in the Egyptian capital Cairo for the tenth meeting of the Sub-Committee for Arab and Economic Statistics, which was held under the chairmanship of Yemen and the participation of experts of statistics and economics from the Arab countries.
The meeting demanded the Arab statistical agencies need to take care the installation and development of records that serve specific purposes of national accounts estimates at constant prices.
It recommended that attention to the development of cadres of Arab statistical through training and participation in the workshops to be held in the General Secretariat of the Arab League and Arab, regional and international contacts with the United Nations Organization for the Development of Western Asia "ESCWA", Department of Statistics at the United Nations to follow up the position of the Arabic translation of System of National Accounts 2008 and quickly provided the Arab countries, and invite the Secretariat of the League of Arab States to follow up the Arabic translation of the system 2008, and to provide States Arabic version upon its completion and the importance of States to formulate its views on them.
The meeting also called the Arab statistical agencies to adopt a Programme of Action to implement the System of National Accounts 2008.
With regard to the item on the provision of a database of foreign trade of Arab goods and services meeting recommended commissioned by the General Secretariat of the Arab League to obtain the experiences of the countries of the Maghreb Union and the GCC and other Arab states with regard to the evidence used for activities, occupations and products, definitions, concepts and methodologies used in the implementation of economic surveys to make the including the Arab statistical organizations and inviting them to support the draft rules on data that is being built in the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
