Feltman: US committed to long-term partnership with Iraq
BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The United States of America is committed to a long-term partnership with Iraq, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, said on Wednesday from Baghdad.
“This principle of a long-term partnership with Iraq was stressed during a meeting with President Barack Obama in the White House last week,” Feltman told the press.
He explained that Washington fears delays in forming the new Iraqi government.
“Iraqi leaders believe that more time is in their interest, but we disagree with them,” Feltman added.
He noted that the U.S. is looking forward to having a new Iraqi government as soon as possible.
“We want to discuss our long-term partnership with the New Iraqi government,” Feltman said.
