BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashimi said Iraq needs confidence building from Iran so as to serve as basis for developed relations away from any interference in one another’s internal affairs, according to a statement by Hashimi’s office on Saturday.
“Vice President Hashimi gave the remarks during a meeting with the Iranian ambassador in Baghdad on the occasion of the end of his tour of duty,” read the statement as received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The statement quoted Hashimi as saying that the Iraqis seek building developed foreign relations with all neighboring countries provided that national sovereignty of Iraq be respected.
For his part, the Iranian ambassador pledged to follow up the Iraqi affairs and do his best in the efforts to alleviate the Iraqi people’s suffering, added the statement.AmR (P)
