Economist: Iraq needs the establishment of the Council to support the national economy

Baghdad, Iraqi economic expert said here Saturday that Iraq needs to form a higher council of the national economy in light of the suffering of the retreat of the wheel industry and agricultural products and adoption of total imported products.

Said Ali Ke Ji told Kurdistan News (Akaniwz) announced today that "The next phase requires the formation of a higher council to support the economy in the country with a number of ministries contribute to the support of per capita income of Iraq."

"The composition of the Council will draw the outline of the financial position and investment in the country, especially in the years ahead when preparing the five-year plans and the decimal point ...

" Indicating that "the ministries concerned with this Council is the oil, trade, financial and Construction and Housing, Planning and Labour and Social Affairs, as well as investment bodies in the provinces."

Ke Ji, it is believed that this "will raise the income of the Iraqi citizens in general to the pattern of living close to the line of the Mediterranean."

Iraq has been based mainly in support of its economy on oil exports after stopping the wheel of industry and agriculture in the country two decades ago because of the policies of the former regime and the failure of Iraqi governments after the 2003 promotion of such vital sectors.

According to estimates by the Statistical Institute of the World Bank was the beginning of the beginning of July this month that average income of the Iraqi citizen a year in 2210 dollars, less than two and a half million a year in light of the reality of declining services and rising living shadow of the absence of basic services.

And Figures from the Ministry of Planning that the percentage of poverty in Iraq amounted to about 23% equivalent to 7 million of the population living below the poverty line and earn a monthly income exceeding 37 000 dinars.

And the Iraqi government announced in August 2009 to launch a national strategy for poverty alleviation in the country, prepared with technical support by the World Bank as the first official effort to measure poverty and build a strategy to reduce it by giving indicators of the levels of poverty and inequality by measuring the standard of living and building map poverty using the results of the survey of social and economic status of families in Iraq, which was conducted in 2007.
