Eclipse: A Moment Out of Time ~ A total solar eclipse will occur on July 11, 2010 ...

July 9, 2010

The solar eclipse this weekend takes us out of ordinary time, and into the extra-ordinary. In her book, Path of Empowerment, Barbara Marciniak writes that eclipses are distinct cycles that disrupt the normal rhythm of daylight and darkness. "Eclipses," she writes, "initiate change by stimulating new levels of intense interrelatedness; essentially, they stir the pot of awareness."

And in his article,
Cancer Eclipse: An Old Power Withdraws, Gary Caton explains it this way, "To appreciate the power of an eclipse, it is useful to understand that time here on Earth is fractal. It is measured by the constant repetition of the primal alternations of darkness and light. This rhythm of dark/light is ingrained into our bodies and psyches."

Caton continues, "When there is a disruption of this pattern, via an eclipse, the natural flow of the dark/light fractal is stopped in its tracks. There is darkness where there should be light. It is as if the Laws of our Universe are temporarily inverted. The world is stood on its head, specifically in terms of the archetype within which the eclipse is operating."

The archetype with the New Moon and Total Eclipse at 19 degrees Cancer (July 11th) is the oceanic realm of feeling, the feminine, Yin power, tidal rhythms. At this moment out of time, the usual partitions of the psyche just aren't there. In Cancer, dark fears and imaginings can rush in via rogue waves.

Emily Trinkhaus of Virgo Magic explains how Pluto's central role in the July 11th Solar Eclipse chart is the gatekeeper to deep healing. She writes, "The opportunity here is liberation from fear, and, says Pluto, the only way out is through. If we have the courage to feel into the fear, we can get to the other side, and free ourselves from the grip of its control."

What's stirred at this solar eclipse is the most powerful energy we carry as humans -- our emotions. It is a kind of dark night for the soul, but one that could be incredibly cathartic. Find some quiet to just "be" with all that's happening within. Eclipses put us in altered states. and brings us closer to the mystery of how we're intimately related to the luminaries (Sun and Moon) in our lives.
