Vietnam expects economic growth of 6.5% to 7% this year

HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM, Vietnam expects an economic growth of 6.5 percent to 7 percent this year, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the opening ceremony of the 19th World Economic Forum on East Asia here on Sunday.

In the global financial crisis, despite difficulties, Vietnam has been able to more effectively deal with the negative impacts of the crisis and maintained a high economic growth rate of 5.32 percent last year, Dung said.

With these achievements, Vietnam has become an attractive and safe destination for foreign investors, Dung said.

Foreign investment flows to Vietnam have kept rising over the recent years and played a significant role in the economic success of the country, he said.

Vietnam has established a dynamic market economy, he said.

Vietnam targets to become an industrialized country by 2020, and to achieve this target Vietnam will begin to promote reforms and enhance effectiveness and competitiveness of the economy at home and abroad.
