Talabani consults leaders of winning blocs on 1st parliament session

BAGHDAD, A number of Iraqi parliamentary blocs who won in the elections revealed here Saturday that Iraqi president Jalal Talabani has sent them messages asking their opinions on setting a date for the first session of the new Iraqi House of Representatives, the parliament.

President Talabani dispatched a message to the Iraqi List party in which he asked them to propose a date for the first parliamentary session before the issue of a presidential decree in this respect, member of the Iraqi List Intissar Allawi told kuna here today.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi National Alliance led by Ammar Al-Hakim said in a statement that president Talabani demanded from the bloc's leaders to consult each other and propose a date for holding the first parliamentary session.

"We are asking your opinion on the date of holding the first session of the House of Representatives according to the article 54 of the constitution that provides for issuing a presidential decree on holding this session within 15 days of the date of ratification the results of general elections."
