Iraqi parliament term kept "in-session"

After the inauguration of the new Iraqi parliamentary term, it was decided on Monday to keep it an "in-session" for an undetermined period.

In the previous term, parliamentary blocs took more than 40 days of discussion to form a government and agree on the speaker, president, and prime minister.

On Monday, all Iraqi Members of Parliament took oath except for Vice Presidents Tareq Al-Hashimi and Adel Abdelmehdi, former prime minister Nouri Al-Maliki, and ministers.

The session was headed by MP Fuad Masoum, after the eldest MP Hasan Al-Alawi apologized for not heading it.

All MPs took oath, which was done in the Kurdish language by Kurd MPs, Masoum said that the parliament's presidency authority was supposed to be elected, but that would be postponed as a result to talks held on Monday.

The session was attended by head of the higher Islamic council Ammar Al-Hakeem.

However, the president was absent.
