The comment - Good stuff n good advice at the end – just the beginning premise about Maliki being ‘good’ is astonishing. He kept his country in shackles for years, did N O T H I N G to improve even basic service like sewers, garbage collection more than monthly, electricity more than a few hrs a day – IN THE DESERT! And insult upon injury, he helped himself to 2 million USD a month THAT WE KNOW OF (in public view) – let alone the value of what he hid from view.
During the elections, he ran around the country jailing the opposition, and STILL calls himself the PM and yet he should hold no more power than an average citizen. Sadly for the Iraqi people, neither he nor Allawi is their ‘George Washington’, nor is Shabibi their Alexander Hamilton. But – at least Allawi TALKS about the good of the common Iraqi, and appears to want to rv immediately to remove the shackles of all Iraqis while building an inclusive government to improve their future. Maliki holds distain for the rv and what it can do for his country (and is ESPECIALLY distainful of how it may help the world economy).
From our perspective (providers of interest free loans to Iraq since 2004), Allawi gets it done. From the Iraqi perspective, their best hope for the future may lie with an unknown ‘compromise’ name. But with 30% unemployment, he had best be of the mindset to rv on ‘day one’ and launch their economy into the 21st century. Thank you for a mind blowing, alternate perspective. Trying to convince people that their eyes are lying to them is a tough nut. I am about 3 Maliki jailings, and a couple dozen Maliki ordered murders, and a few Billion USD Maliki embezzlements ahead of you.

btw – I believed in Maliki like you did, until I saw the post election power abuse by Maliki. Now I freely say I was very wrong, then, about Maliki. For Iraq, as far as truly heroic resistance leaders, thinkers and what would now be viewed as native. elder statesmen – Saddam Hussien killed them all off and now we see the ‘wisdom vacuum’. Hope you can find some flexibility in your position, to accomodate more ‘truths’, as I have. Something about Maliki makes me innately feel that he has murdered many to retain power. I do not think I am alone in that ‘gut feeling’.
thx and have a pleasant rv, buddy.

The response - First off ... it is very evident that many people have allowed themselves to become emotionally entangled with the current political situation in Iraq.
This is understandable because of the investment of the Iraqi Dinar but should be avoided if possible and all must strive to use logic over emotion when dealing with this or any other investment.
You wrongly seem to think that I am somehow backing Maliki for the position of PM and, if so, you have misunderstood.
You see what we have is "Devil number 1" verses "Devil number 2".
Both have served as PM and both have bad points.
But we must stay focused on the facts and those facts are:
1. The PM of Iraq has NOTHING to do with the exchange rate of the Iraqi Dinar.
2. The PM of Iraq is NOT a dictator and does NOT have the power to make sweeping changes with out the Parliament of Iraq passing the laws FIRST.
Yes...the Iraqis have seen little to no progress from the GOI in the past 4 years but who is to blame?
Maliki the PM? Or the Iraqi Parliament which refused to pass important legislation?
Anyone with a brief understanding of the Iraqi political process knows that the Iraqi Parliament holds the power in Iraq to make changes for the people. The PM only has the power to approve the actions of the Parliament but if no actions have been taken and no laws passed then the PM is powerless to help the people.
So who is to blame for no clean water or power in Iraq?
The Iraqi Parliament who Refused to show up for work and Refused to even discuss any law that would help the people of Iraq.
As far as "Devil number 1" verses "Devil number 2" I could not care less who is the next PM of Iraq but I do like the fact that Maliki is hated by the radical cleric Al-Sadr.....and any enemy of AL-Sadr is a friend of the U.S.
But all in all as far as the RV goes it matters not who is the PM of Iraq.
Yes it is very important to have the government seated and the new PM selected and this will happen soon but do not be surprised to see Maliki or one of his right hand men become the PM and when this does happen it will have nothing but a positive effect for the investment climate in Iraq and will be good for us as investors.
Remember that Alexander the Great declared all of the Arab regions as "ungovernable" for good reason and I assure you...nothing has changed.

I recommend to all to disengage emotionally from the political situation in Iraq and know that all is well no matter who becomes PM for, as stated above, the PM of Iraq has no control over the exchange rate of the Iraqi Dinar....all we need to see is the Parliament seated and the PM in place....no matter who it is.

As far as Devil #1 vs. Devil # 2 here is something to keep it all in perspective:
'Allawi assassinated 7 prisoners himself?"
