Arab League delegation participates in Baghdad''s manual recount

CAIRO, Arab League sent on Sunday a team to participate in the manual recount of ballots in Baghdad that kicks off on Monday.

The team is led by Assistant Secretary General of Media and communications affairs Ambassador Mohammad Al-Khamleeshi.

The Arab League said in a statement that Secretary General Amr Moussa recieved an invitiation from the Iraq Higher Elections Commission (IHEC) to send a delegation in order to participate in the manual recount of ballots.

The Iraqi Elections judicial authority approved an appeal by Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki's State of Law List to carry out the manual recount of Baghdad. The List won 89 seats in the March 7 legislative elections, second to former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's Iraqiya List which won 91 seats.

The Arab League took part in the monitoring of elections, as well as in January 2009 provincial elections.
