Ambassador Hill announced a U.S. initiative to provide job opportunities for young people in Iraq ~ Visited Najaf and met with their portfolios

A statement from the U.S. embassy in Iraq that the U.S. ambassador Christopher Hill, visited the city of Najaf yesterday, "as part of ongoing U.S. efforts to establish long-term relationship with Iraq."

The statement said: "The Ambassador met with the Governor of Najaf, Adnan al-Zurfi, also held a lengthy meeting with students at the University of Kufa, in which he announced the initiative of Iraqi youth IYI, a program that would create employment opportunities for Iraqi youth.

He added: "The ambassador delivered during the visit highlighted the efforts of the United States to help in Najaf and a team of the Embassy of the United States for the reconstruction of the provinces which are made in close cooperation with the Government of the province.

He said: "The initiative of Iraqi youth is a national program at a cost of 12 million dollars, administered by the U.S. Agency for International Development, USAID, which would provide training and loans to young Iraqis who are aged between 18 and 35 years old who seek to engage in new careers or expand their business in place".

The statement continued: "will no less than 5000 young people in all parts of Iraq in the first phase of the program, which is expected to create 2500 jobs, new will be dedicated program of 5 million dollars in loans granted to individuals and groups that would enable them to start a business or expand the scope of their business, will also be managing the program in 12 youth centers to provide resources to businesses in all parts of Iraq. "
