*Politics:


BAGHDAD - Iraqi President Jalal Talabani held talks with U.S. Ambassador in Baghdad Christopher Hill and his accompanying delegation, according to a presidential statement.

BASRA - Deputy chairman of Basra council discussed with Japanese deputy ambassador to Iraq opening a consulate and offices of Japanese companies in Basra to develop bilateral cooperation.

*Security:

KIRKUK - Multinational forces defused an explosive charge in southwest of Kirkuk late Thursday, according to a source from the joint coordination center.

KIRKUK - Unknown rocket landed on a residential area late Thursday in western Kirkuk, a source from the joint coordination center said on Friday.

DIALA - Six Peshmerga forces were wounded on Friday in a bomb blast in north of Baaquba, a police source said.

DIALA - Joint Iraqi-U.S. forces arrested 37 wanted persons and suspects in Jalawlaa, according to a security source on Friday.

*Economy:

BAGHDAD - The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) dollar sales this week reached $705.805 million at a stable exchange rate of 1,170 Iraqi dinars per dollar, compared to $737 million last week.
