G20 finance meeting set April 23 in Washington

Finance ministers of the Group of 20 developed and developing countries will meet April 23 in Washington, according to the International Monetary Fund's website Monday.

The G20 ministers will meet at IMF headquarters on the eve of the spring meetings of the IMF and its sibling institution, the World Bank, on the weekend of April 24-25.

South Korea's minister of strategy and finance, Yoon Jeung-Hyun, and Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty will hold a news conference April 23 at 5:20 pm (2120 GMT).

South Korea is the chair of the G20 in 2010, while Canada is chairing the Group of Seven industrialized countries and hosted a meeting of their finance ministers in February.

Canada will host summits of the Group of Eight and the G20 in June. A G20 summit will be held in South Korea in November.

The G7 groups Canada, the United States, Japan and four European countries: Britain, France, Germany and Italy. The G8 includes Russia.

The G20 includes the G8 and some of the world's largest economies -- Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea and Turkey -- as well as the 27-nation European Union.
