4/1/2010 France congratulates Iraq on conditions of recent elections
PARIS, France on Thursday issued a statement congratulating Iraqi authorities and the Iraqi people for the conditions in which the recent elections were held in that country.
The French Foreign Ministry said that it wanted to "render homage to the courage and civics that the Iraqis showed by going to vote and by not letting themselves be intimidated by violence which again hit Iraq last week and which we condemn."
France "reiterated its congratulations to the Iraqi authorities" and the work of the Electoral High Commission in what it said was democratic elections.
"France reaffirms its attachment to the democratic process and the stability of Iraq and renews its confidence in the sense of responsibility of the authorities and the people of this country," the Foreign Ministry said.
The statement also added that France was working in favor of Iraq and so that this country could become an actor in the stability of the region.
