U.S. State Secretary Clinton to travel to Canada for G8 meeting

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will travel to Canada next week for the Group of Eight (G8) Foreign Ministers meeting, said State Department on Thursday.

Secretary Clinton will travel to Ottawa and Gatineau from March 29 to 30 for the G8 Foreign Ministers meeting to prepare for the G8 Summit in Canada, said State Department spokesman Philip Crowley.

The G8 is an intergovernmental forum consisting of eight powers: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and Russia.

In recent years, five developing countries, namely Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa have been invited to join the forum's previous meetings, which are called G8 plus 5.

Reports here said the summit scheduled on June 25 to 26 in Huntsville, Ontario could be the final for the G8.
