China's economic restructuring vital to world
2010-03-05
BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- In his government work report to the National People's Congress (NPC) on Friday, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said China would focus on "transformation of economic growth pattern and adjustment of economic structure" in its economic policies in 2010.
Media across the globe, such as the Prensa Latina from Cuba, applauded the move, saying it would not only lay a solid foundation for China's domestic development, but also is of vital significance to the global economic recovery.
China's efforts at economic restructuring and the changing of its economic development model would effectively increase domestic expenditure and consumption, which in turn will lead to the expansion of imports in the long run.
Therefore, the strategic policy change adopted by the Chinese government would help amend the imbalances in global economic, financial and trade systems.
Chang Xiuze, a researcher from China's National Development and Reform Commission, said China's economic restructuring would play an important role in pushing the global economy back onto a healthy track.
On the other side of the coin, China's economic restructuring means industrial upgrading and more exploration for clean energy, which would definitely lead to considerable emission cuts. That will benefit the global drive of combating climate change.
In his report, Premier Wen said China will work hard to develop low-carbon technology as well as new and renewable energy resources to actively respond to climate change.
