President Barzani Pleased with Washington Visit
Barzani met with the KRG Cabinet and the heads of Parliamentary blocks in the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament.
President Masoud Barzani today met with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Cabinet and the heads of Parliamentary blocks in the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament to brief them on his recent visit to Washington.
At the outset of the meeting, President Barzani said "We had a very successful visit to Washington where we met with President Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary of State Clinton, Secretary of Defence Gates, Secretary of Trade Locke, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Pelosi."
The President said he was very pleased with the outcome of this visit to Washington and said that President Obama and other US Administration officials all reaffirmed their full support for Kurdish rights within a democratic and federal Iraq, as well as their respect for the Iraqi Constitution.
In addition to these meetings, President Barzani said he presented a talk at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institute, a Washington-based think tank. The talk centered on the upcoming elections in Iraq, the future U.S. role in helping Iraq, and the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.
President Barzani stated that he is very pleased with his meetings with the U.S. officials and described them as both productive and fruitful.
"We have received pledges in all our meetings with US officials that they will continue their support for the Kurdistan Region within a federal Iraq, and that they will offer their full support for the Iraqis to resolve the outstanding disagreements between Erbil and Baghdad based on the Iraqi Constitution» said the President.
KRG Prime Minister Barham Salih and Parliament Speaker Kamal Kirkuki headed the KRG Cabinet and Parliament delegations.
