OECD Calls Australia “Model” for Regulatory Reform During Financial Crisis

A report conducted through the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) Regulatory Reform Program named Australia one of the most successful countries in weathering the global financial crisis.

The report cites the high profile of regulatory reform in the government and calls Australia a “role model” for OECD countries in its proactive approach to regulatory reform, both at the federal level and through federal-state partnerships.

Despite these successes, the report recommends the development of a “more systematic and transparent approach to reducing the burden of regulation” and urges greater efforts to harmonize Australian standards with international standards.
