Meeting in Basra on activating investment

BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq: A meeting was held in Basra on Wednesday with the participation of all governmental departments on ways of activating the investment process and increasing the province’s share of housing units, the governor said.

“The meeting, which was held in the provincial building, attended by the president of the Investment Commission, tackled ways of developing the investment process in Basra,” Shaltagh al-Mayah told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Investment in Basra facing the problem of lack of lands allocated for this purpose, as most of them are allocated for oil plants and agriculture,” he explained.

“The meeting will discuss also increasing the province’s share of housing units within the government’s plan, which includes the establishment of 500,000 units,” the governor said, noting that Basra’s share will reach 40,000 (9%).

Basra is 590 km south of Baghdad.
