GCC Statement - Iran's nuclear program revolves around the lack of confidence between Iran and the international community

Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council: The problem is that Iran's nuclear program revolves around the lack of confidence between Iran and the international community

On the sidelines of the meeting between Saudi businessmen in Riyadh and country, in response to questions from journalists about the situation of Iran's decision to raise the proportion of uranium enrichment to 20%, the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah said that the problem is that Iran's nuclear program revolves around lack of confidence between Iran and the international community, and the uncertainty in Tehran's intentions and directions, especially towards the enrichment of uranium, and thus the need for further Bank of guarantees and assurances.

The Secretary-General to take unilateral decisions would not only lead to further mistrust and the complexities of this file is sensitive and what was required at this stage more diplomatic effort to bridge the points of view of Western countries and Iran in exchange for enriched uranium through further consultations, stressing that transparency is required and that Iran comply with resolutions of the Security Council in this regard and to ensure their right to access nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Made no secret of the Secretary-General's concern of the direction in which the talks have reached on this file.

He reiterated the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council, the position of the Council certainly on the right of states to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes under the relevant international convention and in accordance with standards and procedures of the International Atomic Energy Agency and under its supervision, and student to apply these standards to all countries in the region, without exception, including Israel.
