VP meets Obama, Biden at White House

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi discussed bilateral relations with U.S. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the White House on Friday, according to a presidential release.

“Vice President Abdul Mahdi also took up developments in Iraq and the region as President Obama expressed a special interest in furthering Iraqi-U.S. relations, the success of the forthcoming legislative elections in the country and the formation of a new government as soon as possible,” read the release as received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The U.S. president also expressed full support for Iraq’s political process, commitment to withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq in accordance with the status-of-forces agreement (SOFA) signed between the two countries and help to bring Iraqi out of the UN Charter’s Chapter VII,” it added.
