12 January, 2010
Delegations from 40 nations will meet in Abu Dhabi tomorrow to discuss the problems faced by troubled Afghanistan and Pakistan, an Emirati official said yesterday.
The gathering will also be attended by the foreign ministers of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Jordan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, the official said.
"The issues that will be discussed include Pakistan's economic development plans and humanitarian assistance, as well as strengthening democratic institutions in Afghanistan," said Dan Feldman, an advisor to US Afghanistan envoy Richard Holbrooke, said in Washington on Thursday.
Tomorrow's meeting comes just weeks before a major January 28 conference in London, attended by Afghan President Hamid Karzai and international leaders.
