"New Turkish lira" withdrawn from circulation as of Jan 1st

The now old New Turkish lira banknotes are withdrawn from circulation as of January 1, 2010, to be replaced with Turkish lira and kurus again.

The now old New Turkish lira banknotes are withdrawn from circulation as of Friday, January 1, 2010, to be replaced with Turkish lira and kurus again.

Turkey switched to the New Turkish lira on January 1, 2005, as part of drive to reduce inflation in the country, which has dropped six zeros from their banknotes.

Turkish Central Bank put the "Turkish Lira" (TL) into circulation in the beginning of 2009 to replace the "New Turkish Lira" (YTL).

2009 was the transition year and YTL and TL was in circulation together for one year.

The New Turkish lira banknotes will be redeemed for a period of ten years starting from January 1, 2010 till December 31, 2019 at the branches of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey.

** The New Turkish lira banknotes will be worthless as of January 1, 2020.
