CAIRO, Dec 19 -- Cairo Saturday welcomed outcome of the second round of the strategic dialogue between Egypt and the US, which began in Washington last Wednesday.
Foreign ministry spokesman Hussam Zaki said in a statement the strategic dialogue was one of the important cooperation and coordination tools.
The second round of dialogue touched upon the Middle East peace process, the Palestinian cause and efforts to revive Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, he said.
The Egyptian delegation informed the Americans on the importance of breaking the deadlock of the peace process and the need to exercise pressure on Israel to honor its obligations related to the peace process.
Both sides, said Zaki, discussed the Iranian nuclear file and actions by the P5+1 within the UN Security Council (UNSC).
Zaki said the Egyptian side said the Iranian nuclear file should be dealt with on a regional basis and aimed ultimately at clearing the region from nuclear arms.
Both sides, he added, have also discussed the developments in Iraq following the approval of the new elections law.
