BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Today is the last day to endorse the election law, the head of the parliament’s legal committee said on Tuesday.
“Today (Nov. 17) is the last day of the constitutional period to approve the election law as the law will be effective as of tomorrow,” Bahaa al-Aaraji told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The Parliament sent the law to the Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi for approval, enabling him to present a draft law to amend the first article of the law which is related to Iraqi emigrants,” he explained.
Al-Hashemi had said on Sunday evening (Nov. 15) that he would not endorse the election law in its current drafting “come what may,” adding he gave parliament until Tuesday to amend a para dealing with internally displaced persons (IDPs).
